Destination
Blue Sky

No child with Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) should have to suffer, silently; a prisoner in their own brain, unseen and ostracized by the community who could help them.  I know, as a mom of kids with PANS, and as an adult with PANS, how awful it can be to suddenly be angry, or sad, or terrified, with no idea why, and no control over my emotions or my body.

The root cause of PANS, as I understand it, is toxicity.  We live in an increasingly toxic world.  We all know that, and we’ve given up thinking about it because there’s no good solution.  But what if we put together the link between toxicity and insanity?  What if our world’s toxicity could be implicated in mass shootings, homelessness, and domestic violence? What if, by cleaning up our world, we could live in a kinder, more peaceful, more equitable society?

Destination Blue Sky is the true story of my family’s descent into the madness of PANS. It tells how we got better by taking an extended camping trip, and then building a new home in clean air. It is a beautiful story about the incredible capacity of humans to love and take care of one another.
